About us

Hilary Adams has been established in Herne Bay since 1987.

Starting out with not much more than two desks, two chairs and three computers the firm gradually expanded to fill both first and second floors of High Street premises.
We soon expanded to other offices including Birchington and Rochester. We now have two main offices in Herne Bay and Rochester.

In 2008 we moved up the road to ground floor offices. Newly modernised, they meant an end to network cables trailing out of windows. Light, airy and open plan – the rubber plant is thriving.

Being ground floor, it is also much more disability friendly.

Along with new offices came new equipment. Phones and computers are linked over both offices, so all clients’ information is instantly available everywhere. (Instantly, as in “I won’t keep you a moment, I’ll just pull your details up on screen”…and the familiar sound of furious typing.)

We’re pleased with the move. It makes it much easier for people to pop in – although a lot are just asking for directions.

The address is:

158 High Street Herne Bay CT6 5NP

Almost opposite the fire station – you can’t miss the blinds.

When we opened our office in 2008 we realised the importance of Medway. It’s part of the Thames Gateway Regeneration Programme – but programmes, projects, initatives, mean nothing unless people (not just planners) get involved.

The Medway City Estate is special. Businesses want to trade with each other, support each other.

We like that. And can help.

If you fancy a chat, call Faye or Michael. Or make an appointment 9.00 – 4.00 Monday to Friday. If you need early, late or weekends phone us – we will arrange something convenient for you.

The lease on the office came to an end in August 2011. This forced a decision on us.

The building was old and, increasingly, not fit for purpose. It was impossible to comply with the spirit of the Disability regulations; even where it might be possible it would be extremely expensive. We decided we could not commit to a further long lease. Reluctantly, the office is now closed.

We wrote to all the customers explaining the arrangements. Many had already started using our ground floor, light & airy offices in Herne Bay. Everyone else was invited to do so as well.

If this was difficult, we would continue to offer to pick up and collect records.

And we’re still taking on clients in the Thanet area.

In November 2002, Hilary Adams took over responsibilities for the clients of Noel, Martin & Co, and Michael Cuckney & Co. This followed the retirement of Peter Martin, who had traded from his Birchington office for over ten years. (The business has been in Birchington much, much longer.) Blezards clients joined us in 2007.

In April 2017, Hilary made the difficult decision to retire, after 30 years with the firm. The business was passed on to Faye and Michael, who had both been with the firm for many years
